Romans 6
Summary Steps in Sanctification
Romans 6:1-14
Summed up in five key words:
1. KNOW (Line diagrams)
"knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." Romans 6:6
"For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:3
"Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds," Colossians 3:9
2. RECKON (Wheel diagrams, The Application of the Cross outline)
["Reckon" is more than a guess; it is an accounting term that means to count it as true personally.]
"For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:10,11
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20
3. YIELD (Total Commitment page, Selfer's Prayer)
"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God." Romans 6:12,13
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1
4. FOCUS (Scripture Memory Project, Looking Unto Jesus, Who I Am in Christ)
[summary statement] "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for ye are not under law, but under grace." Romans 6:14
Focus on your freedom from SINS AUTHORITY 6:14-23
Focus on your freedom from the LAW’S TYRANNY ch. 7
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally [fleshly] minded is death [disintegration principle], but to be spiritually minded is life and peace [integration principle]." Romans 8:5, 6
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8
“1 Peter 1... Chosen For Obedience
Focus on WHAT GOD IS DOING (GRACE). ` 1
5. WALK
"For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:3,4
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16
In other words, "The abiding Life is not only an experience to achieve; it is a
relationship to maintain."
