What is the "Exchanged Life"?
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20 NKJV
"Exchanged Life" was coined by the missionary pioneer to China, Hudson Taylor. It was used to describe the life changing experience he had while serving the Lord on the mission field. This experience has also been called the abundant life, the victorious Christian life, identification with Christ, the abiding life, the grace walk, the grace life, the Christ Life, the surrendered life, the crucified life, and Pastor Ron's favorite -- "Abundant Grace". These same truths were taught by Watchman Nee as the Normal Christian Life.
Devotional writers, such as Andrew Murray, A. W. Tozer, and Oswald Chambers have written many books on the paradigm of Christ as our Life; and most recently by Dr. Charles Stanley as the Spirit-filled Life.
This Biblical concept of the "Exchanged Life" is Christ's life exchanged for our self-life. Colossians 1:27 teaches us that "Christ in you is your hope (assurance) of glory (of daily experiencing God's presence and being like Him)". John 15:5 illustrates that He is the vine and we are the branches. We are grafted into Him. He gives us life, sustains us and holds us. According to Galatians we were crucified with Christ. We must recognize that fact; that we were crucified with Him and now no longer live, allowing Him to live in us, through us, and for us.
The work Jesus did on the cross was not just for salvation (to get saved) but also for transformation. The "Exchanged Life" happens during salvation, but many do not appropriate or realize it until much later. What does this look like in real life?
The reality instead of an illusion is discovered when we yield our will for His will; our choice for His choice; our lives for His life. If we surrender our thoughts, feelings, and choices to Him and let Him live in us, through us, and for us we can live a life of victory; a life that is more than recovery.
